Steel plate armour, front and back on a player model (classic arms).
Front and back, classic model. Rendered from the file by our own generator.
The classic 64×64 skin file for Steel plate armour, shown pixel for pixel: every body part unwrapped onto one square.

Our take

The full knight: steel plate over chainmail, with banded shoulders, a ridged breastplate and an open helm. It uses every overlay region.

What it's good for

Knights, paladins, castle guards and anyone wanting a base that already looks heavy. Recolour the steel for gold, black or rusty iron.

Design notes

Chainmail on the base layer is drawn with a chain pattern; steel plates on the overlay use a metal pattern with extra contrast for shine. The breastplate has a lit ridge down the centre, two rivets and a band, the shoulders and leg plates are banded, and the forearms switch to a darker steel. The open helm leaves the bearded face visible. In total about 1,020 overlay pixels, spread across head, body, both sleeves and both legs.

Measured palette: the main colour groups in the file, with the share of painted pixels each covers.

Customise it in the editor

  • Turn the overlay off to see the chainmail-only version: a lighter soldier under the same face.
  • Recolour the steel with Fill on the overlay to gold or blackened iron; keep the ridge highlight.
  • Add a tabard or heraldic colour on the base body front between the plates.

Open steel plate armour in the editor to try these: it loads on the classic model, and the slim version is one click away too.

Classic or slim?

Opens on Classic. Plate armour wants broad shoulders, so Classic is the natural choice; Slim is available for a lighter knight.
