Our take

Black tie: a dinner suit with satin lapels, a white pleated shirt and a bow tie. Simple, sharp and high contrast.

What it's good for

Formal events, spies, hosts and fancy-dress characters. The black-and-white palette is easy to accent with one colour.

Design notes

Its black is given a wider light-to-dark range so the folds survive, and satin trims in a slightly lighter grey pick out the lapels and the stripe down each trouser leg. The white shirt and black bow tie sit on the base layer. The dinner jacket is an outer-layer piece, and patent shoes are near-black. The hat layer is empty.

Customise it in the editor

  • Add a coloured bow tie or cummerbund as the single accent.
  • Swap the jacket to white with Fill on the overlay for a summer dinner jacket.
  • Add a flower on the lapel with two or three pencil pixels.

Open black tuxedo in the editor to try these: it loads on the classic model, and the slim version is one click away too.

Classic or slim?

Opens on Classic. Either works; Classic looks more classic-movie, Slim more modern.
